The 5 Best Copenhagen Bars

Sep 16 , 2011

To unwind and enjoy some conversation, visitors and residents alike stop in at some of the more popular Copenhagen bars. Many of these establishments have an excellent selection of beer and cocktails to choose from. Keep in mind, however, that the drinking age in Denmark is 18, not 21.

Charlie's Bar

If you're the type who would visit all of the Copenhagen bars just to find that one perfect hole in the wall, then Charlie's is the place for you. This relaxed atmosphere might almost seem grungy to some, with its brick floor and beer bottle window, but it's perfect for those who want good beer, good prices, good times and very little fuss.

Modeled after a British pub, Charlie's has an extensive collection of beers for such a little place. Domestic and foreign beers can be guzzled here. Also, every couple weeks, new beers are rotated into the stock, so you'll nearly always have a new frosty brew to conquer.

Brewpub København

For the beer drinkers that would rather not visit a place exactly like their own neighborhood bar down the street, there are plenty of other Copenhagen bars to look forward to. Brewpub København is a microbrewery, restaurant, and bar located on Vestergade.

Finding this bar may be a little more difficult than finding the other Copenhagen bars, and you must first walk through an outdoor courtyard and beer garden, which is equipped with heaters and blankets for those chilly nights. The bar, with nearly a dozen beers on tap, is located downstairs. Besides beer, the bartenders at Brewpub København are also able to whip you up your favorite cocktail as well.

1105

Speaking of cocktails, all you cocktail lovers may want to check in at 1105, located smack dab in the middle of the city. This Copenhagen bar is considered to be trendy and hip, with sophisticated décor. The crowd is typically a little older, and the music is a little mellower here, compared to other Copenhagen bars.

Gromit Eduardsen, a prominent English mixologist, is the owner of 1105, and the creativeness of the cocktails at this establishment is often attributed to him. While there, you can try any one of their amazing cocktails, but at least try the Copenhagen Cocktail, the city's signature drink.

Bar 7

Inspired by a minimalist New York City apartment, Bar 7 is casual but trendy. The walls of this bar are covered with a modern art collection, but with several different intimate seating areas, you'll most likely feel right at home.

Although it is one of the trendier Copenhagen bars, the prices at Bar 7 are considered to be relatively reasonable. Their drink list also includes a number of colorful creative cocktails.

Pussy Galore's Flying Circus

Last – but definitely not least – comes one of the most well-known Copenhagen bars, with the most unusual name. Located in Saint Hans Square in Norrebro, this bar is trendy, yet somewhat casual, with simple elegant furnishings.

Besides excellent cocktails, there is another reason why many residents and visitors of this city choose the Flying Circus over other Copenhagen bars. While there, you may get the chance to sneak a peek at some of the members of the royal family, who stop for a drink occasionally.
